Home remodeling seems to be an amazing opportunity to make money. It appears that large construction firms don’t have to be the only option to turn to in the market for restorations, expansions and other home repairs.

As I was enlightened, this business is very lucrative and anyone with or without building experience can become operate one of these ventures. Let’s look at Jim - a 27 year old guy who knew very little about construction but he started a successful business in this industry.

As he told me, he was pretty good at making calls and selling his business while he left his partner who works in the construction industry to answer all the questions pertaining to cost and other matters that the client may want to know about.

This partnership has been very fruitful for both men and as Jim explains it, they’re lots of people with pretty good administrative skills that can get into this business by forming a partnership.

He said this works great because contractors aren’t very good administrators and salesmen but if you believe in your business then you can sell your services to customers and leave the rest to your partner.

Also Jim doesn’t employ salaried staff. He made some connections with some independent workers (which wasn’t very hard as they are lots of them around) who wanted a piece of the action. These guys work per job and not per hour.

I happened to ask Jim if he had other self employment ideas before this and he said yes he had a couple others but chose this because on average he can make $3,000 - $10,000 per project.

Thinking about it this is not a bad income for a pretty small operation. But his advice for persons who may want to consider this market as a business venture is to do extensive research and if they can afford it take a home remodeling course.

With the research you can gain a lot of insight about the market and how to position yourself in it. You don’t even have to be tied down with the construction process but you may want to keep in close contact with the workmen and your client.

This feedback ensures that everything is going according to plan and once you customer is happy they will refer business to you in the future.
